Rose Geranium has a delightful rose-like aroma without the price tag of rose absolute.  It is sweeter and lighter than geranium with a nice rosy overtone. If you like the scent and frequency of rose, you really should try rose geranium.

Dark Sweet Orange is very much like bitter orange in its properties and uses.  It differs from regular sweet orange in that it is from a first pressing that enhances the therapeutic quality.

Palmarosa is a great stress reducing oil.  It can be used for physical exhaustion
and other stress related problems.  A great oil for reducing stress
AND relaxing tight muscles.

HEALTH TIP
Keep your pH as High as Possible this Cold and Flu Season

For our cells to be "happy" they need to receive and use the oxygen we breathe, the nutrition we eat and the water we drink.  Your pH directly affects the state of health of your body and how your individual cells function.  Cells function at their highest level when in an alkaline environment.  Achieving and maintaining a pH level as high as 7.35 - 7.45 helps allow your body to resist disease and the symptoms that they produce.  Your body has several responses it uses to maintain as high a level of pH as possible.  This includes using water to neutralize acid and  pulling stored calcium and magnesium for the skeletal bones.  Some of the warning signs of a lowering pH include headaches, nausea, fever, skin rashes, brain fog, severe tiredness, gastric bloating, angina pain and dizziness.  (Sound familiar?)

When you start to feel a little “off” this cold and flu season, remember your pH balance and work to keep it as high as possible.  One way to quickly increase your pH is to have what some affectionately call “The Brew” while others call it “Honey Punch” or “HVC”.  Mix 1-2T of honey and 1-2T of apple cider vinegar into 12 ounces of warm water.  Add enough cayenne tincture to make it warm and spicy.  This is a fantastic way to elevate your pH and increase your circulation at the same time.

Using Natural Baby Products by Krista Carter

When it comes to taking care of yourself and your children, I believe the only way to go, is to use the closest to natural products that you can.   What you put on your body, is every bit as important as what you put in your body.  Many, many products out there have ingredients that are just plain not safe to put on an adults skin, let alone a babies delicate little body.  To check any of the products in your home for ingredient safety, click here

Diapering
Cloth or disposables?
Here are some of the benefits of using a quality cloth diaper:

* Your family will save $2000+ per child vs. using disposables.  The average family spends $2694.54 for 7,349 disposable, single-use diapers.

* Better for the environment, as it is estimated that 10,000 tons of disposable diapers are added to landfills EVERY day.

* Less diaper rash for your baby.

* Reduce babies chances of getting asthma from perfumes and toxic substances used to make disposables.

* Your baby won't be exposed to sodium polyacralate (the shiny crystals in the diaper that can stick to babies skin causing skin reactions).  Another chemical used in disposables, is dioxin, a highly toxic by-product of the bleaching process.

You can also use cloth wipes, and know exactly what you are putting in your wipe solution, with no added perfumes etc.  Here are some recipes for cloth wipes:

Baby Wipe Solution #1
3 cups of water
1/8 cup olive oil
4 drops tea tree oil
6 drops lavender oil
4 drops LeBaby Me oil
Combine these in a seal-able container ; add 1 tablespoon of castile soap, and mix with a spoon until combined.
Add your wipes.
Baby Wipe Solution #2
Add 2 drops of tea tree essential oil or lavender essential oil to 1-2 cups of distilled water.  Mix and add wipes.
Baby Wipe Solution #3
1/2 cup distilled water
1 tsp. vinegar
1/4 cup aloe vera gel
1 tbsp. calendula herbal oil
1 drop lavender essential oil
1 drop tea tree essential oil
This recipe will not only cleanse but also discourage yeast growth. Use with cloth wipes or washcloths. Mix the ingredients together in a covered glass container and either pour over wipes in a wipes warmer or pour in a spray bottle and spray on each wipe before use.

For a good basic bum cream, just mix a little shea butter with a little bit of organic coconut oil, (about  4 S.B. to 1 C.O. ratio), or to your desired thickness.  If you have a small container, put your shea butter in, and then add your coconut oil.  Set container in some hot water until it's soft enough to mix together.  I just fill the sink with a little hot water and let it sit there until it's mixable.  If you want to put a couple of drops of LeBaby Me or lavender in, put some of your shea butter mix in you hand as you're ready to use it and add 1-2 drops in.

If your baby gets a rash try this....

An oatmeal bath: grind up oatmeal  for a pleasant soak in the tub. Another way to get the benefits of oatmeal without the mess is to put some regular oatmeal (not baby oatmeal) in a small cotton bag and let it soak in the tub with your baby. Squeeze water through it every so often.

Let your babies bum get as much air as possible.

Laundering.....
How you wash your clothes and diapers is also very important.  You want to make sure you choose a natural clean rinsing detergent that isn't going to cause skin reactions.  This is very important for all skin, but especially important to babies skin.  The reason your clothes smell like the detergent when they are done washing, is because there is still detergent in your clothes.  NEVER use dryer sheets as they are toxic.  I don't use anything in my dryer as I have found I don't need to with the natural detergent I use.  If you do find you have a problem, use wool dryer balls instead of dryer sheets.

Bathing.....
Most commercially produced soaps and shampoos contain synthetic lathering agents, artificial colors, and a slew of chemicals that you probably can't even pronounce.  Always remember that your skin is porous and absorbent.  It absorbs whatever it comes in contact with, much the same as sticking something in your mouth.  Chronic use of chemical-laden products will cause the body to store the chemicals in the body fat or even in the brain.  With enough accumulations of toxins in the body, illness can occur.  You can find many healthy soaps and shampoos for your baby, in liquid or bar form.  You can also make your own. With a base of castile soap, you can make your own shampoo, hand, and body soaps.
Another thing to think about is making sure you have soft water or you have filters on your baths and showers, as there are many chemicals that come from water that your body absorbs.

Colic
2 tbsp. almond oil
2 drops chamomile essential oil
1 drop lavender essential oil
1 drop geranium essential oil

Apply this mixture on your baby's stomach and back to provide relief for abdominal pain.

Cradle Cap
2 tbsp. almond oil
1 drop lemon essential oil
1 drop geranium essential oil
1 drop cedarwood essential oil (optional)
1 drop of sandalwood essential oil (optional)

Apply to the scalp of babies with cradle cap. Rub vigorously but gently and leave in for a few minutes before rinsing.

Lotions/Body Butters....
When you use natural soaps, you will soon notice that there really isn't a huge need for extra moisturizing.  Many commercial lotions also are not good for your skin or your body.  You can buy many healthy lotions for your babies skin.  You can also make your own body butter using many different oils and butters.  I like using coconut oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, avocado oil, jojoba oil, olive oil.  A little body butter goes a long way. You can also use a body butter or carrier oil, my favorite is coconut, and just put a couple of drops of LeBaby Me or Lavender if your baby is fussy, and massage into your babies' skin.  You can also put 2-3 drops in their bath etc.  Make sure they can't rub it in their eyes.  One of my kids' favorite things, is after they take their shower or bath at night, I come to their beds, and use an essential oil that I feel they need, usually on their feet.  It's a great way to connect with your child or baby...they love the massage!  You can use natural body butter or favorite carrier oil.

Teeth....
I don't use any toothpaste on my babies.   Just brushing their teeth and getting them ready to brush their own is what I choose to do.  If you want to use a toothpaste, use a little food grade coconut oil.
For teething babies... (1 drop of clove oil to one teaspoon of almond oil or glycerin). Test on your own mouth first to make sure it’s not too strong, then rub it on baby’s gums. Using your finger to massage the pain while applying the oil will be a relief for baby. Do not use the clove oil remedy in excess.

Baby Food....
*Here is a link for natural homemade baby food recipes, http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com  Earth's Best is also great baby food.

One change at a time....I know it's overwhelming switching to natural ways.  Just do the best you can and eventually you and your family will be healthier and feel great about the decision to use safe natural products.....
