LeAllspice (Pimenta Dioica)
Familiar to cooks, this culinary seed tastes like a combination of cloves, cinnamon and pepper, but is actually a small berry-like pepper. It has a sharp, yet warm and spicy aroma, with a clove-like scent.  Allspice offers a wide range of therapeutic properties. Can be useful as an aid to the digestive and respiratory processes.  Allspice is reputed to have outstanding analgesic, anesthetic and muscle relaxant properties, making it useful in treatments for rheumatism, arthritis, and muscle cramping.  In the emotional sphere, allspice is used for depression, nervous exhaustion, tension, stress and neuralgia.

It blends well with ginger, geranium, lavender, orange, patchouli and ylang ylang.

Natural Ways to Combat “The Blues”

With the holidays over and behind us, January can bring with it “The Blues.”  Knowing that this might happen and acting before you feel the effects is vital.  Here are some tips on some natural ways to fight off that “blah” feeling.

Exercise is an excellent way to combat “the blues” and depression.  Exercise releases endorphins that can boost your mood as well as make you feel calmer and more optimistic about the future.

Drink plenty of water and try to get your eating habits back on track from the holidays.  Getting your body to function properly may help to stabilize your mood swings.

Be sure to get some “light therapy”.  Using special lights which simulate natural daylight can be effective in fighting depression.  If you don’t have access to these lamps, take advantage of natural light therapy as often as the sun and the weather permit.

Sometimes just the act of talking with someone helps lessen the burden of depression.  Find someone you can confide in and take time to visit with them often.  Let them know that you might need them to be available when you call.

The oil blends of Heart Song, Tranquility, Whispering Hope and Sanctuary are all effective oils to help lighten your burden and lift your spirits. Single oils which have shown to help include bergamot, ylang ylang, rose, neroli and jasmine.

Using a comprehensive approach which would integrate all or some of these ideas should help keep those winter blues away.  One of the major keys in combating depression is to hit it early and to hit it hard.

And please don’t forget to Have a Happy and Healthy New Year!!!

Skin Nutrition
Healthy skin is evidenced by what we put on the skin and by what we put into our bodies.

Why is your skin so important?
Being the body's largest elimination organ, the skin is an indicator that tells you how healthy your body is on the inside.

How can you keep your skin healthy?
You should not put anything on your skin that you wouldn't put in your body and vice versa.

The article “The truth about beauty” by Kat James says: Beautiful Skin Shouldn’t Be Hard Work
“Good skin isn't about doing a three-part regimen twice a day or keeping your face sterile and oil-free. It's about wisdom, strategy and restraint. The idea that you're not doing enough of this or that is nonsense. More often than not, it's what you don't do that makes your skin beautiful.
Healthy skin in a balanced body maintains itself with minimal fuss, renews itself at just the right pace and glows on its own. In order to get to this point, you need to first recover your skin's full, protective functions".

Peel Back the Layers of Regimen Overkill
Marketing mania has most of us convinced that nature in action is an unruly phenomenon to be neutralized or tamed. Advertisements teach us that hair follicles, sweat glands, surface-level skin cells, sebum and all bacteria are beauty's mortal enemies. We are seduced into seeking the latest, harshest ways to show our hair, skin and bodily functions who's in charge. We think nothing of using products that strip us of the “bad” oil and peel away those “bad” bacteria while drying the skin into a drawn, lifeless state that is far removed from nature's intention. Real beauty has nothing to do with tingling, deep-cleaning, super-exfoliating products. These measures are overkill and the costs to your skin, your hair and possibly even your health can be considerable. Most “new and improved” products and more aggressive exfoliating techniques compromise our skin's precious self-protective matrix. All of this has created a whole spectrum of new “skindromes” with equally unnatural new maintenance requirements. Before we know it, we're a slave to new skin problems and the upkeep these regimens create while we sacrifice the inherent self-protective potential as well as the natural glow our skin once had. These harsh approaches to skin care are based on the false assumption that our skin doesn't already come equipped with its own superior antibacterial, anti-wrinkle and anti-invader protection system. The trick is not destroying them.”
Having this information makes us ask the question, “What is healthy and not healthy for my skin?” The following gives us an idea on what we can or cannot do.

What Not to Wear
Do any of your products contain parabens, sodium lauryl sulfate, mineral oil, philalates, propylene glycolpergor or artificial fragrances? DO NOT put these on your skin! They are cheap chemicals and have artificial toxins that are absorbed directly into the bloodstream. Check cosmeticsdatabase.com to see if your products contain harmful toxic ingredients.

What to Wear
Use salt, clay, coconut oil, honey and essential oils. Your body and skin are made up of minerals! All of these beautifying minerals can be found in both the salt and the clay and in the perfect amounts that your body needs. When your body is out of balance minerally, then you and your skin will be sick. Essential oils can also purify and normalize skin oil. Neem oil is anti-microbial and anti-fungal. Neroli oil is purifying and normalizes oil production.

Cleansers and Masks
Clay can serve as a mask and a facial cleanser. It also detoxifies the skin which is a great anti-aging and anti-acne mask.
Raw Honey is an awesome mask. It is anti-bacterial, moisturizing and softening.
Leave honey on at least 20-30 min (I recommend putting it on before you shower). Skin will flush slightly – it will only do this if it is raw honey. Make sure to put around eyes and it will help combat wrinkles as it plumps the skin. Honey can also be used as a light spot treatment overnight- goodbye zits!
Try this home remedy recipe for facial mask.
 Raw Honey Mask
1 TBS Raw Honey
10 drops essential oils (orange, lavender, tea tree and geranium are great oils to use)
Warm the honey in a double boiler fashion, do not microwave. Mix in the oils and apply mask to face. Leave on 15 min and rinse with warm water. Putting warm water on your fingers while applying the mask will help it go on smoother.
(Note: Low levels of vitamins A and mineral zinc have been linked to acne. Skin reactions to contact with hair products, phones, and fabrics and many prescription drugs, such as steroid inhalers, can also contribute to acne.) Tea tree oil has an effect similar to benzoyl peroxide 5% without making the skin flaky. Tea tree oil and salicylic acid “zit sticks” are a good option for mild acne. Hydration is a basic defense against acne, so drink plenty of pure water. Blackheads are another problem. They are caused by build up of dead skin and protein. Peppermint essential oil helps clean them out. For a long term problem with blackheads cleaning out the liver and gallbladder can solve the problem.

Moisturizers
-Jojoba, grape seed, olive and coconut oils are fabulous moisturizers. Use them as massage oils for your face. These oils are beneficial for damaged and stressed tissues possessing regenerative and restructuring qualities which allow a better control of skin moisturization. Massaging your face brings extra blood and nutrients to the skin resulting in smaller pores and less visible lines and also gives you softer, smoother skin. For best results massage 15-30 minutes a day or use the Galvanized Spa for 3 minutes per day. For more information about the Galvanized Spa e-mail Amy at www.journeyrc@gmail.com.

Nutrition for Great Skin
Sugar is your biggest ‘great skin’ enemy. It spikes insulin. White flour and processed carbohydrates are almost as bad so avoid these. For natural alternatives e-mail Amy at
www.journeyrc@gmail.com. If your liver isn’t in perfect health, there is usually too much insulin for it to handle. As a result, the extra hormones get deposited in your skin and can lead to acne and wrinkles. Sugar and refined carbohydrates contribute to Candida overgrowth which causes skin problems.

A final word on natural skin health:
Have you ever considered Botox? DON”T DO IT! STOP! There is a natural alternative that marries all the information above. Try a wrinkle release the natural way with new technology from Galvanized Spa and essential oils with miracle results.
