Pets Can Help With Depression

Pets have been shown to have a marked effect on human psychology and wellbeing. Boris Levinson, a psychologist in New York, was the first person to use animals alongside regular therapy. In 1962 he discovered that he made significant progress during the treatment of a mentally disturbed child if he made sure that his dog was present during the sessions.

Some mental health units have on-site pets. A ward hamster looked after by staff and patients has been a great success at a hospital in South London. Pets are also being used more and more as part of a range of alternative therapies for depression. The companionship, physical contact, interaction, responsibility and focus that a pet brings to daily life helps to take your mind off your illness.

Nurturing something else and considering its needs will help to shift your focus away from your illness. Stroking animals is also therapeutic, so make sure you choose a tactile animal that likes being touched.  Pets make us laugh, they are loyal and they give us something to care for. In terms of depression, animals give us a reason to get out of bed in the morning.  The bonding is key.  Half the “medicine” for daily living is bonding with a pet.

There is no evidence about which type of pet brings the most relief. It could be a fish, rat, cat, dog or bird; the important thing is that you become involved and engaged in its life.  If getting a pet can help with depression and reduce or eliminate the need for anti-depressant drug therapy, it would be something to consider very seriously, but think carefully and completely before committing to a pet.

LeEndo Relief
Pink Heart
Ingredients
cumin, cypress, coriander, dill, geranium, myrtle, nutmeg, oregano, petitgrain, sage

Affinity for
endocrine system pineal gland
lymph system pituitary gland
emotional boundaries

Resonance
physical, emotional, spiritual

Application
LeEndo Relief should be applied to the lymph glands of the neck, chest, and armpits whenever a cold, sore throat, or flu is suspected. Using LeEndo Relief early, before the illness is fully developed will lessen its severity.

Aromatic Considerations
This blend is best applied to the body.

Emotional/Spiritual Aspects
LeEndo Relief aids our emotional health because it strengthens and balances the wide range of organs and glands that make up the endocrine system. As our bodies and minds begin to function better, we feel more secure in ourselves. We are able to establish (or re-establish) boundaries between ourselves and others. This does not mean that we become prickly or rude; it enables us to be tactful and firm while still being kind and concerned.

Physical Aspects
With improved endocrine function comes improved vitality and metabolism. Our weight naturally balances and we have enough energy to last through the day (and into the night, if we need to). As an endocrine system balancer, LeEndo Relief can have a beneficial effect on any ailment that is related to endocrine organs such as the thyroid, pancreas, pineal and pituitary glands, parathyroid, thymus and adrenal glands. This makes LeEndo Relief useful for such things as diabetes, hypoglycemia, bladder and kidney infections, candida, and so much more. Support of the thyroid and parathyroids aid the proper absorption of calcium. Calcium absorption affects such things as the prevention of gallstones, kidney stones, arthritis, and osteoporosis. LeEndo Relief regulates hot flashes and moderates the other symptoms of menopause because the hormones balance as the endocrine system function improves.

Emotional/Spiritual Aspects
LeSunburst is a favorite among the citrus blends because it is relaxing and calming, especially for children. This blend promotes a sense of well-being and is an excellent remedy for insomnia. LeSunburst is not a sedative. It promotes restful sleep from which you wake in the morning feeling energetic and refreshed. Some citrus oils have proven effective against eating disorders. Additional points that may be of benefit are found on the arms just above the elbow. It may also be of benefit to apply LeVitality on the arteries of the neck, and to massage it along the spine between the 1st and 4th vertebrae.

The aroma of LeVitality is useful for shock. It also increases vitality, energy, and stamina.

This blend provided me with a hopeful feeling about the state of my health. As stamina and strength improve, there is more energy and you feel good enough to enjoy life more fully.

Physical Aspects
LeVitality is very specific for the cardiovascular, circulatory, pulmonary, and lymphatic systems. It should be tried for all heart related and circulatory conditions, but LeVitality has amazing uses in so many other areas. It is often useful for lowering high blood pressure and reducing stress levels. This blend can increase stamina among the sick or the elderly.
LeVitality is a remedy for the treatment of shock and has been used to stop or slow the progress of an oncoming stroke. For an impending stroke, LeVitality should be quickly applied to the neck and forehead. Encourage the person to breathe as deeply and calmly as possible.
Among its other uses, LeVitality is an adrenal stimulant, aids the function of the kidneys, and clears lymphatic congestion. The anti-inflammatory properties of LeVitality make it useful for arthritis, pleurisy, and sciatica. LeVitality can help balance hormones and is useful in treating toxemia during pregnancy if it is related to heart or circulation problems. LeVitality reduces the size and painfulness of hemorrhoids; be sure to dilute well here.

Aromatic Considerations
Lavender can help us return to kindness and generosity if we have been in a place of judgement.

Application
There is probably no wrong way to apply or diffuse lavender.

Emotional/Spiritual Aspects
One of the great emotional gifts of lavender is the feeling of total and unchanging support around us. It leaves us with no room for doubt that we are loved and will be supported in life’s challenges and in the process of healing. Lavender promotes faith, even in the hard times. Lavender brings balance between masculine and feminine energy and traits.
Lavender is a gentle, but effective, sedative and nervine. It can bring relief from anxiety, panic, hysteria, emotional and mental fatigue, headaches and migraines, and insomnia.

Physical Aspects
Lavender can be used for nearly all skin conditions. It can be applied to cuts, sunburns, burns, rashes, dermatitis, eczema, and insect bites. Consistent use of lavender with burns and injuries minimizes scarring. Lavender, usually as part of a blend, is often used to prevent or remedy conditions of dandruff and hair loss. Lavender is antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, cytophylactic, and antispasmodic, making it effective for muscle strains and sprains, cramps, and wound healing.
Lavender clears excess waste products from the lymphatic system and is an aid to digestion. Lavender is sometimes all that is needed to prevent or alleviate nausea. Mildly diuretic, lavender can be useful in alleviating edema and premenstrual water retention. Whether the root of the problem is emotional or physical, lavender is often effective in stabilizing both high or low blood pressure and regulating the pulse. Lavender, or blends containing it, is used to lessen pain and promote restful sleep. Lavender is useful for babies with thrush.

Cautions
Lavender is wonderfully calming in small amounts, but can be stimulating if used in too large a quantity or too often. This is especially true with babies and small children.

Lime essential oil is a perfect choice for the very weary—those who are so weary of trials and troubles that they feel far older than their years on earth would indicate. The lively fragrance of lime is stimulating and refreshing. It can help one overcome exhaustion, depression, apathy, and listlessness. Lime is a good oil for improving memory and concentration.

Aromatic Considerations
Myrrh has been used in meditation for centuries. It is a wonderful oil, although it doesn’t have the most pleasant aroma.

Myrrh essential oil can be diluted and applied to the feet or anywhere on the body. Myrrh is a resin; even diluted it remains tacky on the skin for a few minutes.

Emotional/Spiritual Aspects
Myrrh essential oil helps us see ways and means for the achievement of our dreams. It opens our minds to inspiration and the direction of the spirit while keeping us firmly grounded in reality and common sense. Myrrh has an affinity for the base chakra, which connects this essential oil to issues of abundance and bounty. When we open ourselves to receive the gifts of the spirit and of the material world, these gifts will be given to us.

One of the outstanding properties of myrrh is astringency. Astringency means that myrrh causes tissues and blood vessels to contract. Myrrh can tighten the gums, tone the skin, aid muscle contraction in the intestines and other internal organs, and stop bleeding. Myrrh relieves congestion in the lungs and sinuses. As a stimulant, myrrh has an effect on thoughts, blood circulation, the secretion of needed bile in the digestive process, the pumping action of the heart, and makes you more alert by stimulating the brain and nervous system. Myrrh essential oil increases perspiration during times of illness, ridding the body of toxins and cleansing the pores of the skin. M yrrh’s stimulant properties have a particular affinity for the immune system and the circulation. Myrrh is an excellent choice for skin complaints such as eczema, ringworm, athlete’s foot, chapped and cracked skin, stretch marks, rashes, and wrinkles.

Cautions
The use of myrrh should be limited by pregnant women because myrrh is a mild uterine stimulant.

Why Drugs Can't Really Heal the Body?
Health Tip: Sharon Moran

Many claims are made as to the advancements in medical care and the use of pharmaceuticals, but the overall health of the American population is still declining.  The cost for insurance and health care continues to sky rocket. So why are we not getting healthier?

The main stream medical community uses a system called allopathic medicine in an attempt to remove the symptoms of disease from the body.  Allopathic or allopathy is defined as, “ The system of medical practice which treats disease by the use of remedies which produce effects different from those produced by the disease under treatment.”

The term "allopathy" was coined in 1842 by Samuel Hahnemann to designate the usual practice of medicine (allopathy) as opposed to homeopathy, the system of therapy that he founded based on the concept that disease can be treated with substances (in minute doses) thought capable of producing the same symptoms in healthy people as the disease itself.

The body works well and most efficiently when it is well nourished.  Likewise, a poorly nourished or undernourished body is not going to respond well when it comes in contact with stress or disease.

Drugs offer absolutely NO nourishment for the body whatsoever.  In fact, the opposite is true.  They are toxic chemical poisons that are extremely destructive to the body.  When the body encounters these toxic substances, its initial response is to remove them as soon as possible. While the drug may help to relieve a symptom temporarily, every drug has a side effect, or adverse reaction within the body.  The fine print will tell you what these side effects may possibly be for the body when drugs are introduced.

Rather than strengthening and nourishing the body so it will be more apt to resist or fight disease, the approach of allopathy is to introduce a toxic poison into the body.  It may produce effects different from those of the disease, but it is in no way helpful to create a healthy, vital, energetic and disease-free  body.  In fact, with the introduction of chemical toxins into the body, it becomes increasingly difficult for the body to heal itself with all the side effects that they create.  These side effects now require an additional drug.  This cycle can become a chronic game of cat-and-mouse.

The only real way to remove symptoms permanently and completely from the body is to get to the root, or cause, of the symptom and to begin nourishing the body with what it needs to heal and balance.

Many different modalities are available which help nourish the body’s vital energy.  This increase in nutrition allows the body to become balanced and vibrant.  Certainly essential oils and herbals are high on this list.  Other natural ways to balance the body include exercise and good eating habits.
