Also known as rockrose, cistus is one of the earliest aromatic substances used in the ancient world. It is widely used in the perfume industry, especially for aftershaves and skin conditioning products. The resin which is distilled protects the plant from the environmental stressors of excessive heat and dry conditions, making it an excellent addition to skin moisturizers and skin firming products. Cistus has been used to help bronchitis, colds and coughs as well as insomnia and nervousness. Excellent for wrinkles and for mature skin.
Therapeutic Properties: antimicrobial, antiseptic, antitussive, astringent,, balsamic, emmenagogue, expectorant, and tonic.
Application: apply to areas of concern. Blends well with bergamot, calamus, clary sage, cypress, lavender, opopanax, patchouli, pine, sandalwood and vetiver.
Aromatic: has a warm, sweet, dry, herbaceous scent
Contra-indications: avoid during pregnancy.
