Eucalyptus
(Eucalyptus radiata)

Eucalyptus radiata was actually the first eucalyptus distilled commercially as an essential oil; commonly known as ‘narrow-leafed peppermint’; radiata is preferred by some (especially for children) because it is gentler and softer than the globulus variety, but is just as effective; anything that is said of the globulus can also be said of radiate; radiata is described as more pleasant to inhale and less likely to irritate the skin when used on sore muscles and joints; contains a high percentage of cineol, also known as eucalyptol, which is the component in eucalyptus oils that is said to relieve colds and congestion; can be used to cool the body in summer and protect from air borne bacteria and virus in the winter; eucalyptus actually becomes more antiseptic with age; emotionally, this oil is energizing and promotes feelings of steadfastness and confidence in oneself; helps us release resentment calmly, without explosions of temper and hostility;
